We Live On Native Land

Supernova Press would like to acknowledge that we live and operate on the ancestral and current-day homelands of the Michif Piyii (Metis) and Nehoyaw-Askiy (Plains Cree) people. We are also proudly located on Treaty 6 Territory. We ask everyone to read the 94 calls to action for truth and reconciliation and to make a conscious decision to take action to change and understand how white supremacy and colonialism have affected, and still affect, Indigenous populations.

We believe that everyone should use their voices and their platforms to fight for change and Supernova Press is no different. Our mission is to elevate authors and tell critical stories while working to create a cleaner, healthier, more engaged, passionate, and educated world.

Supernova Press will always:

☆ Refuse to stay silent on critical issues when our voice could make a difference.

☆ Put authors, stories, and writers first whenever possible.

☆ Work to create a better world for everyone, regardless of sex, gender, colour, race, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, age, or status.

☆ Be an ethical, accountable, and transparent company worthy of the 21st century.

☆ Fight for honesty, literacy freedom, and engagement in a digitally united world, and transparency in the publishing community.

Why Are We Doing This?

For authors. Supernova Press wants to turn writers into authors, not use them for profit. We work to build never-before-thought-of, out-of-this-world stories and works of fiction into great novels that reach their highest potential instead of refusing to take a chance on a good story because “there isn’t a market.” Instead of seemingly hundreds of inaccessible hoops for our authors to jump through, we have designed our submissions guidelines to be as unique as writers can be, and undaunting so we don’t miss a story. And rather than doing what is expected and standard, we’re doing what is right.

We do this because the story, the written word, and authors should be the focus of publishing. Fiction allows us to challenge accepted ideas, inform, enlighten, and educate, and we believe there needs to be a publisher who will fight for authors, do what is right not what is accepted, and be a company people in the 21st century can be proud to work with and support.

If you’re an author looking for our submission page, this would be the link for you! https://supernovapress.com/for-writers/

Our Plans (For World Domination)

We are proud to be a Canadian-run and owned company, but it would be silly to ignore how much social media, the internet, and the digital world has connected the real world. For all its issues, the world has never been so connected, and we leverage that for our authors, and for our readers.

Supernova Press is a digital-first publishing company, meaning although we are legally based in The Battlefords, our website is our office and meetings are over the phone or on zoom. If you have anything you’d like to say to us in person, you can get in touch over the phone or send us an email.

All of our novels, short stories, anthologies, or novellas will come out as eBooks first, followed by paperback novels. We hope to add audiobooks by 2023. And in an effort to reach the greatest number of people, we ship (and email) our novels worldwide and straight to your inbox.

But why are we digital-first?  For two reasons. One being our desire to connect as many people as possible with our ideals of open communication, thought-provoking stories, and literacy freedom in Canada and beyond. For the other reason, read our Environmental Policy below.

The Climate Crisis

A large part of why we’re digital-first is our commitment to keeping the world a clean, healthy, safe place to live beyond 2050-2100. We as a people have a duty to make sure we protect our planet. That is why Supernova Press follows a digital-first publishing program and hopes people decide to buy digital copies of our novels first, rather than physical copies. For our paperbacks, we utilize a POD (Print On Demand) service, ensuring that no more trees have to be cut down than necessary. We don’t have warehouses full of books. The novels are printed as they’re bought, and shipped straight to your door.

Also, we have exciting news! All of our ARCs (Advanced Readers Copies) are now ePubs to save paper and Co2 emissions. If you’d like to request a digital ARC for one of our novels, please reach out to us at contact@supernovapress.com.

Though our policy is not fully developed, know that the Climate Crisis is at the forefront of our mind when we plan our printing and shipping in the future.

Inclusivity & Accessibility

Supernova Press is accepting, progressive, and an avid supporter of the LGBTQIA2+ community, BIPOC, disabled people, and other minority groups. Discriminatory beliefs, stories, and ideas that question people’s humanity are not published by Supernova Press and those ideas will not be entertained or tolerated. Even though Supernova Press is dedicated to ensuring historical discrimination in the publishing community is rectified, we are an equal opportunity publisher, and publish novels based on the story, the voice, and what needs to be said currently, not solely on demographics.

Our dedication to accessibility is a key component of why and how we publish. All of our eBooks will be fully accessible by the end of 2023, and going forward we’re hoping to add audiobooks to the list of ways our novels are able to be enjoyed and their stories shared around the world. By 2025, all of our novels will be bilingual, offered in large and regular print, and our ePubs will be accessible accordance in accordance with NNELS standards.
